The mantic slave girl of Acts 16 is wrongly treated by the dominant exegesis as being liberated by Paul. After discussing the manumission of slaves and property rights of slave owners, Richter Reimer argues that it is inappropriate to view the sprit of Python as an evil spirit or demon. Paul’s exorcism bears little resemblance to exorcisms by Jesus or by others in Acts.
